Posters1

It is always to get back to what you love doing after a small hiatus! And that’s what i am doing these doing; getting back to good-old Weekend Moviethons. This trend starting in 2011 with my good friend George and it has continued since then with my wife too! With the 2015 Awards season approaching we have got back to our movie-watching ways again & continue to maintain the same pace!

This weekend we watched 10 movies together; luckily all of them were superb ones and every movie got a 4+ rating from me.

I am sure you all would also love watching these movies the same way we did! Have a good time.

Here are my brief reviews and the ratings…

 Land Ho

This one is an American-Icelandic adventure-comedy-Road Trip film about a pair of ex-brothers-in-law set  off to Iceland in an attempt to reclaim their youth through Reykjavík nightclubs, trendy spas, and rugged  camp-sites! i am a huge fan of Road trip movies so this one excited me the moment I read about it plus it has  been shot in Iceland which one of my dream destinations! Earl Lynn Nelson as Mitch is simply wonderful  and his style is so awesome! Thankfully no overdose of emotional rambling & this remains a fun ride  throughout! The Humour is understated yet it made me laugh a lot! The end scene has been shot in the  famous Spa pool which is such a fascinating place! This one is a must watch! My rating 4.5/5…

 Tangerines

This one is an Estonian-Georgian film War film about story of some men during the 92-93 War in  Abkhazia. The movie is filled with some very intense scenes coupled with a lot of humour & heartbreaking  moments! The script is very well-written and conveys a very simple & poignant message! The story  progresses from Hatred to humanity in a very subtle manner and during the end scenes my eyes were moist!  It is a mind-blowing scene and forces you to think “what’s the point”! I just loved this movie and after a very  long time a movie got a 5/5 rating from my side! needless to say it is a must-watch movie!

 Still Alice

This one is a drama film starring Julianne Moore in the role of Alice, a renowned linguistics Columbia  professor diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s disease. Julianne has done such a superb job that you can  feel the pain of her slow decline into the deadly disease and the challenges she faces with each passing day!  Definitely one of the most stunning performances by an actress in recent times…I found the ending a bit  underwhelming though with the sudden closure. Kristen Stewart has also done a very decent job. This one  would definitely win a lot of awards for Moore! My rating 4/5…

 Boyhood

This one is definitely one of the most innovative concept movies of our times! Filmed over 12 years with the  same cast, Richard Linklater’s movie is a groundbreaking story of growing up as seen through the eyes of a  child named Mason who literally grows up on screen before our eyes. This one ranks as one of the best  coming-of-age movie I have watched. The concept is captivating, entertaining, intelligent and very  interesting! You feel like living all the way through with the characters & literally growing up with them! I  am sure this one would be sweeping many awards come 2015! My rating 4.5/5…

It unearths the secrets at the heart of a modern marriage in a very unconventional & thrilling manner! The story unfolds slowly and completely grips! A very well-crafted thriller with brilliant acting by Rosamund Pike. The cinematography & background score are 2 critical elements of this movie which add to the overall delight! This one is an Indie Drama film about a young woman played brilliantly by Kristen Stewart who is placed as  a guard at Guantanamo Bay detention camp and develops an unusual & touching relationship with one of t  the detainees named Ali (Peyman Moaadi- About Elly & A Separation). Their conversation scenes have been  shot really well and one can feel the frustration & hopelessness of both the individuals. The 2 superb lead  performances are the most special part about this film. I loved it to bits! My rating 4.5/5…

 The Equalizer

I am a big fan of both Denzel Washington & Slam-Bam One-Man Army movies and this is a perfect one for  my taste! Very well directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day & Shooter) this is a no nonsense out & out  action movie with some very well shot action scenes and a fast moving plot! It is always fun to watch Denzel  and hope to see him more frequently! This one is a must watch for all action genre fans…My rating 4/5…

 St. Vincent

This Coming-of-Age Com-Dram is about an old-arrogant-drunkard-arrogant man named Vincent who  builds a special relationship with a 12-years old kid Oliver whom he babysits! Together with a pregnant  stripper named Daka (Naomi Watts), Vincent brings Oliver along on all the stops that make up his daily r  routine – the race track, a strip club, and the local dive bar! The comedy is very different and I loved the  amazing one-liners and how briskly the plot moved! The kid is such a natural actor & it is a special debut  indeed! Bill Murray has done a fabulous job & is simply brilliant! I loved the ending scene which is a highly  emotional one! this movie is highly recommended…my rating 5/5!

 The Hundred-Foot Journey

This one is a special movie indeed! About food and shot in France starring 2 superb actors – Helen Mirren &  Om Puri with a superb supporting cast to boot! It tells the story of a feud between two adjacent restaurants:  one operated by a recently relocated Indian family and the other managed by a Michelin-starred French chef.  It is about passion for good cooking and about what drives people to success! The plot has been handled  pretty well with some real nice cinematography coupled with an average Rahman OST! Yes the story &  ending is cliched but what the heck, for me it was very entertaining! Don’t miss it folks! My rating 4.5/5…
