Prawns with Fresh Coconut

I wanted to eat some spicy prawns dish last night so decided to make an original recipe this time. I love the flavour of coconut so added it for good measure. The end result was adequately spicy and mighty delicious with the crunch of grated coconut resulting in magic! Do give this easy & delicious recipe a try folks.

Ingredients:

300 grams prawns (I used the frozen ones)

For the Marinade:
1 tsp red chilli powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp lemon juice

1 tsp mustard seeds
A bunch of curry leaves
1 medium onion, sliced
2 tbsp tomato paste
1 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp garam masala powder
3 tbsp fresh coconut, grated
1 tsp ginger, grated
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp oil
1/2 cup water

Method:

1. Marinate the washed & cleaned prawns for 30 minutes.

2. Heat the oil in a pan, splutter the mustard seeds & curry leaves. Add the onions and Bhunno till it gets to golden brown.

3. Add the tomato paste, ginger and all other spices. Bhunno for 3-5 minutes.

4. Add the grated coconut and bhunno for 2-3 more minutes. Add the water at this stage.

5. Now add the prawns and cook for 3-4 more minutes till they are coated properly.

6. Serve piping hot with tawa rotis and steamed rice.
